National War Museum Umuahia
The Museum which was established in 1985 is situated on land that was once part of the defunct Republic of Biafra and is a major tourist attraction in the region, that attracts hundreds of people daily. The museum’s location is where the bunker housing the famous shortwave radio “the Voice of Biafra” was transmitted from during the troubled time. Voice of Biafra was the mouth-piece for Republic Biafra during the war.
A bloody civil was fought in the 60s to return Biafra to Nigeria, and the Museum stands as a symbol of reconciliation, healing and history. The National War Museum is said to be the home of the highest number and collection of the Nigerian civil war weapons and armaments. The weapons found at the museum are those that were used by both the Nigerian military and the defunct Republic of Biafra.
